The Challenge

SoftwareONE's customer wanted an assessment of their on-premise estate to understand what a migration to Amazon Web Services (AWS) would look like. The scope covered run costs, migration readiness, move group planning, timelines and project cost.

The customer, a Brazilian utility, had an on-premise server estate and needed to build a cloud business case.

How Software One Used AppScore

SoftwareONE used the AppScore SaaS platform to gather and process data on the customer estate. This included data on servers including technical details such as operating systems in use, server sizing and also information about the business applications running on those servers including particulars like business criticality, roadmap status of the application and data requirements.

Discovery determined there were 366 servers on which 261 applications were running. The cloud compatibility checker and technical debt assessment in AppScore was used to establish which workloads were ready for cloud migration and which required remediation prior to migration.

Outcome

The data was used to build a business case of cloud versus on-premise and used AppScore's transformation planning capability to create initial move groups with a high level, costed migration plan.

This enabled the client to promote a business case internally for the migration to cloud.
